What is the Importance of Knowing Your Strengths?
Our strengths are the building blocks of our character as a person. Our strengths are what should help define us, to show that we are strong and have confidence in ourselves. As humans, we have a negativity bias that makes our brains focus more on negative things over positive things. This means that we must focus on our strengths because our brains do not automatically gear towards the positive strengths we have. Knowing our strengths can increase “happiness (“Secrets of a Happy Brain”), improve quality of life (“The Benefits of Knowing Your Strengths Now, Rather Than Later”), and help you overcome self-doubt (“The Power of Knowing and Using Our Strengths”). So, there are many positives to focusing on your strengths!
Where do Strengths come from?
Strengths can come from many things such as what people have learned from overcoming hard situations. They can be what people have learned throughout life from things such as how to cook, knowledge on certain subjects, and how to take care of people. People can derive strengths through their talents they have such as playing an instrument, crocheting, and playing a sport. People's strengths can also be qualities they have such as having a sense of humor, being kind, and creative. There are so many ways to have strengths, try to think outside of the box on what kinds of strengths you might have!
What Kinds of Strengths Do You Have?
There are so many types of strengths in the world to have. Some of us are creative, some are self-disciplined, and some are emotionally intelligent. Those are all 3 very different strengths, but each of them has positive aspects that make each individual unique from each other, but still allow each other to be strong in different ways. What kind of strengths do you have? There are examples below! Look at the list and pick out strengths that you know you are using in your own life and maybe pick some that you aspire to have! There is no limit on how many strengths one can have, so pick as many as you want!
How can you Improve Your Life Through Your Strengths?
As mentioned before, focusing on your strengths can improve your quality of life (“The Benefits of Knowing Your Strengths Now, Rather Than Later”). When we do not focus on our strengths, we may end up in careers that do not satisfy us and we may not get our full potential in many areas of life such as personal hobbies and relationships. Knowing your strengths can improve life quality because you are able to thrive in whatever area of life that you have strengths in. You are able to go to a job you are passionate about or have a hobby that truly fuels your passion. The more you focus on strengths, the more you will see improvement in your life. The more things will come easier to you, and the more happiness overall. I hope you focus more on your strengths and start to see improvement in your life from doing so!
